I have an old roof 18 plus years old ......?

No leaking but shingles are starting to curl and some come off in rain..I need to replace it but getting the money up front is hard to do. A friend of mine said call my insurance company and they would come give be a quote and I could get it replaced. In order to not look like a fool I wanted to see if this is correct?? I didn't think the insurance would replace a roof I neglegantly didn't replace or do up keep on. ;)
