What are easy ways to style my long, thick hair?

Im a bit of a tom boy but want to become more girly. I got a new wardrobe so i DRESS more girly but am sick of only wearing my hair straightened. I've attempted to curl my hair but ...i failed. Im not sure if i didnt do it right or if my hair just doest want to cooperate. So... if you have any ideas let me know! Thanks!
